About the book
One lens. Handed over, not explained.
Not the system. The single most portable piece of it — taught through ordinary rooms, then placed in the reader's own hands to run cold.

The Diamond is the trade entry point to the corpus — the book you hand someone who has never heard the word FTS. It teaches one instrument: every human situation has two halves — what is true (reality) and what matters (meaning) — meeting at a hinge, the single present point where a claim can be checked and be wrong. Reality without meaning is data. Meaning without reality is ideology. The diamond is what holds both.

The method is demonstration, not instruction. Show before tell; story before naming. The book opens on a man at a gym and a candidate on a debate stage — felt, undrilled, no framework in sight — and only afterward names what the reader already watched themselves see. Across the body it runs the instrument at every scale: a standardization meeting, an onboarding, three rooms arguing about what makes something good, a culture, an eroded friendship, a captured worldview. Same shape, different door.

The diamond is perception, not procedure. Once the lens is installed it reveals structure wherever attention lands — bilateral, fractal, continuous. You do not apply it. You see through it. The book's job is to install it cleanly enough that the reader stops watching the author drive and takes the wheel.

Which is why the book does something most don't: it hands the reader a fresh, undrilled situation — a company deciding whether to kill one of its two products — and stops. Run it yourself. Where is the hinge? Who is at what altitude? What word is doing double duty? Then, and only then, the author runs it alongside. The transfer is the point. Watching a tool work and working it are different things, and only one is yours to keep.

And it closes by naming the navigation as a method, not a mystery: the diamond is self-guiding, because every rung hands you the question that finds the next one. Find your rung, ask its question, let the answer move you. The systems rungs near the hinge are cheap; the people rungs at the extremes are where the cost lives. Oscillate — drill and climb — and never finish, because behavior arbitrates and the diamond is not exempt from itself.

For: the smart general reader. The operator who lives in rooms like these and wants the tool for exactly this kind of moment. The first door into the architecture — the book that earns the right to point at the rest.

Chapter One — The Rest Between Sets

I'm not going to hand you a phrase to live by.

I'm not going to tell you to have good intentions, or keep an open door, or be brave. Those are destinations with no map. You already have a drawer full of them, and not one has ever changed what you did on a Sunday morning.

I'm going to give you the map instead.

You watched a man on a debate stage refuse to bring a checkable claim to the one place it could be checked, and you felt the wrongness of it in your body before you had a single word for the structure.

That gap — I can see it clearly and I have no name for it — is the whole reason this book exists. You already had the perception. Everyone does.

The diamond didn't give you the sight. It gave you the name.

From the body — Have You Eaten Rice Yet

I want to take you to the one that took me thirty years to read correctly. It started in my grandmother's kitchen, every single time I walked in.

The first question — before hello, before anything — was always the same. Eat rice yet? Not how are you. Not how was the drive. And if I said no, she fed me. And if I said yes, she fed me anyway.

I heard it when I called her — before how-are-you, the first thing down the line. I heard it on the voicemails she left, her voice asking it into a machine that could not answer. It came out of her wherever love was on the other end. And for almost all of that time, I read it as noise. As nagging. My schema metabolized the deepest thing she ever said to me as a scheduling question.

Drill it. Why rice? Why every time? Because the question was built in a place that had known hunger close enough that being fed could not be assumed. Not how do you feel, which assumes the floor and asks about the furniture. Have you eaten, which checks the floor itself.

Eat rice yet? was never small talk. It was the deepest care she had words for.

Every slogan in the drawer is a single rung, torn out of the diamond and handed to you alone — a destination with the map ripped off.

That's why they never worked. Not because the advice was wrong. Because a rung is not a map. You were handed the bottom of the meaning ladder and told it was wisdom, one pole of a spectrum and told it was virtue — and sent off to navigate a structure nobody ever showed you the shape of.

The wisdom was never a prerequisite. It was the output.

That feeling — something's not right here and I don't know what — was never confusion. It was perception, arriving without a map. Now you have the map.
